Declutter Summer Decorations {15 Minute Mission}

Today's mission is to declutter summer decorations in and around your home, now that summer is just about over and autumn is coming quickly.
This mission is designed to accompany the
Holiday Decoration Storage & Organization Challenge that we have on the site, as part of the 52 Week Organized Home Challenge.
However, instead of doing all of the holiday decoration decluttering and organizing at once, just at Christmas time for instance, we do the missions periodically, throughout the year, while working through the
Declutter 365 missions. This helps you focus on only decorations for a particular holiday or season at once, as you get out and then put away various types of decorations.
We have missions for changes of the season as well as for certain larger holidays throughout the year that many people enjoy decorating for.
Today's the day to deal with summer decorations.
These could be general seasonal decorations that you've put out to celebrate summer, or for particular summer holidays of whatever variety you celebrate, such as Independence Day (Fourth of July) in the United States or whatever else.
Some people have special
tablecloths and napkins, or
plates or dishes,
potholders,
mugs,
wreaths, or any number of other types of celebratory decorations.
First, think what decorations you do have for this season and if you didn't even bother to get them out this year to put
them up around your home, ask yourself if you really should be keeping the decorations at all.
There's no point in having items like this unless you actually use them. If they're so buried amongst other clutter you didn't have time or energy to dig them out, but you do want to keep and use them in the future, take the time now to organize and store the decorations in a way that will make it easier for you in the future.
This could be, for example, designating one storage container that holds only these types of items, so it's easy to find them when you want them, instead of digging through many different boxes of decorations.
Second, for those decorations you did get out this year, it's at the least time to put them up now, since summer is just about over, and instead to get out your autumn decorations.
As you put away these decorations look at each one for wear and tear, and really think about whether you want to save it and put it out again next year, or not.
Get rid of excess and clutter, and keep only the best stuff.
Then, make sure you put away anything you are keeping in an organized fashion, so you can easily find it all for next year, easily.
Below I've got a photo from a reader who has already done this mission, to get you inspired to do it yourself.

Are You Ready To Declutter Seasonal Decorations?

One reader, Melinda, sent in this photo above when she did this mission as she also
decluttered her junk drawer. She said, "I guess we're set for the 4th of July?"
You may find different types of decorations and items to help you celebrate various holidays as you declutter your home. Make a place for them now, so you can find them when the time is right and enjoy the things you've already purchased and spent money on!
